I have now successfully completed my first week of my first semester at Cal State Fullerton! I was going to wait a week to update but after my last post I thought it might be a good idea to update sooner.
I learned a few things:
- Have a game plan for parking
- Schedule adjustments may be necessary
- When enrolled in a low enrollment class, you will be embarrassed if you arrive late.
- I can do this.
I am happy to say that the feelings I felt on the second day of school have mostly vanished — I am enjoying my time and look forward to doing so from here on out.
What I really want to do is take the next few lines to send a “thank you” to my community college, Mt. San Antonio College.
Thank you. A million times, thank you. I could not see this on day one or even day two of my new adventure, but after a week I truly understand how beneficial my experience at Mt. SAC has been. I am fully equipped and prepared for my upper division courses because of my education while attending my community college. I walked in to my classes a bit terrified but have come to realize that my professors at Mt. SAC really dedicated their time to making sure student success went well beyond their own classroom. To me, that is heroic. I am proud to have been a student and my heart will remain with Mt. SAC always — as I begin this adventure I feel the encouragement of more than a handful of professors and advisers at my back. I am grateful.
To my followers and all moms in college, do not be discouraged because (or if) you are attending a community college. Community college is not for failure, it is not for losers, it is not the last resort. Attending a community college is cost-efficient but with the same opportunities as a 4 year university. The courses at a community college are the first two years-worth of courses at a four year university and nothing less. Do not think otherwise! Do not let people allow you to think any less. Take advantage of the opportunities around you and be proud that you are following your educational dreams!
So, thank you Mt. San Antonio College for everything: I am prepared. I am encouraged. I am ready to make you proud!
Week 2, here I come!
Awesome. This is one of my fears, that I won’t be capable of “real” university work. Which I know is nonsense but it’s still there.
